Compounding is the art of preparing medications dating back to the origins of pharmacy. At Myers Drug we still practice this time proven art of compounding using modern variations of the "mortar and pestle" to prepare unique and individualized mediations. Working with your doctor, compounding allows our pharmacists to customize the strength and dosage form of a medication according to your individual needs. This may include specialized lozenges or preparing a drug that is no longer commercially available.
It may also involve changing a medication from a pill form into a penetrating skin cream, or adding flavors, even preparing a dye-free or preservative-free medication. The possibilities are endless. The Myers Drug pharmacists, along with the expert assistance of compounding lab technicians can formulate and prepare just about any kind of medicine specifically designed just for you. Our compounding services can enhance virtually any area of medicine including natural hormone replacement therapy, children's dosage forms and flavors, capsule and suppository preparations, skin preparations, hospice formulations, lip balms, medicated lozenges, eye and eardrops, and even inhalation therapies. The History of Myers Drug
Myers Drug is and has always been located in downtown San Angelo, on historic Chadbourne Street. The original Myers Drug Store was started by the late C. Russell Myers in 1934. The original location was 26 South Chadbourne Street, between the Central National Bank and the Sears, Roebuck Building. In 1958, after 33 years of operation in the same location, Myers Drug Store relocated to 22 Chadbourne due to expansion of Central National Bank. Mr. Myers continued to operate his business at this location until he passed away in September of 1976.
In November of 1976 the business was purchased by Dale and Joyce Chadwick. Dale had managed Myers Drug for the previous five years, allowing for a smooth transfer of ownership. Under the guidance of Dale Chadwick, Myers Drug continued to progress with the changing medical needs of our community. With the addition of Doug Chadwick to the staff in 1992, a commitment to home medical equipment and supplies took place. The major emphasis of the business remained in the area of pharmacy services; however, the ability to meet more patient needs was expanded.
In 1996 Myers Drug became a member of the Professional Compounding Centers of America. This began a process of becoming problem-solving specialists... working with physicians and patients to meet specific needs through the preparation of specialized medications. We call it Medicine from Scratch!
In September, 2000, Myers Drug entered a new phase of serving their customers when Myers Drug moved into the building across the street from its former site. The newly renovated, 108 year old Myers Drug building allowed Myers to expand services and products that would be accessible to our community, all under one roof. Myers Drug became a full service nutritional supplement center, a gifts section, an expanded pharmacy, a state-of-the-art compounding area, along with a growing health and medical equipment area. The renovation of this busy downtown facility was not only functional, but beautiful! Even today, Myers Drug is a downtown business that the entire community is proud of.
In the past few years we have also seen a rededication to another lost art of pharmacy: natural products. The pharmacists at Myers have made a commitment to stay abreast of the latest information on herbs, vitamins, nutraceuticals, phytochemicals, homeopathic medicines, and other natural products. Nutritional and pharmaceutical counseling has been combined at Myers so that we can fully meet the needs of today's health conscience consumer. Thus Myers Drug has become known as “The Wellness Store”. With the perfect combination of services available through The Wellness Store and our certified compounding status, Myers Drug and our customers are aware that Myers is truly set apart from other pharmacies, including big box pharmacies.
At Myers Drug we are proud of our first 84 years in business, and we are excited about “what’s next”? Owners, Micah & Krystan Pratt are looking forward to the opportunities facing us, as Myers Drug embraces our newest Pharmacy FAMILY, and a fourth generation Pharmacist.
While Micah was in high school he worked at The Prescription Shop in Littlefield, Texas, owned by his Father, Kelly Pratt & his Mom, Lori Pratt. He began working Saturdays making deliveries, and then worked his way up to becoming a Pharmacy Technician. In 2006, Micah graduated from the Texas Tech School of Pharmacy with a PharmD degree, and in 2012, Micah and Krystan bought The Prescription Shop in Littlefield from Kelly and Lori. In May of 2017 Micah and Krystan Pratt bought Myers Drug from Doug and Melissa Chadwick.
Myers Drug has had 84 years of men & women who are committed to our community “sharing the good that local business brings to the table”. We now look forward to a future that is destined to expand and grow in order so we can continue to serve the people of San Angelo, and the Concho Valley!
Micah’s philosophy: Owning multiple pharmacies comes with a great responsibility, and in San Angelo, Texas, Myers Drug has 27 amazing employees. So, first and foremost, I will always take care of my employees. Second, I will always strive to provide customer service at the highest level. Third, I will make every effort to be a strong leader. And finally, God comes first, family second, and then work.
